The Wedding Fairy Tale
I never thought I?d live to see the day when my sister gets married. It?s just not like her to enter into some kind of boy-girl relationship or any sort commitment involving men, for that matter. Judging from the way she lived her life since our school days, you?d think she?s a spontaneous man-hating machine who hates everything that has to do with the male specie. We really thought she?s a lesbian, though it doesn?t pose a problem to anyone in the family, it?s just overwhelming standing here as a bride?s maid in a small Church in Louisiana awaiting for the bride that is my sister.
We were visiting a relative in Louisiana when she met this man, who became her instant enemy, then eventually her true love. As typical singles on vacation, we had breakfast at coffee shops in the morning instead of preparing meals because it?ll consume so much precious time supposed to be spent roaming around town and shopping. It was our fist coffee that day when this man entered the shop, he seemed to know the way around and he greeted the bartender by first name basis. Ordered his cappuccino, he sat across the table where my sister and I are seating and now, eating cinnamon rolls. The coffee shop became an instant favorite, because the coffee?s good, it?s cheap and it?s situated near our lodging.
This man suddenly flashed a smile to us; as usual my sister frowned and suddenly became very interested in the newspaper while muttering something about male machismos behind the papers. Maybe he knew we were new in the place, he approached us as a getting-to-know-you scheme but in very polite manner. So we chatted a little while my sister stayed buried underneath the papers. But I noticed she kept on glancing behind the papers. The chat was brief, fresh and polite. He offered a ride around town, which I accepted because first, we haven?t brought our car and second, I?m really tired of my sister?s attitude, which is really a borderline to rudeness. I wanted her to change that.
In the middle of the shopping I finally decided to get lost and leave the two, while announcing a little bit earlier that my cellular phone is battery drained. Tired of the shopping spree, I went straight to coffee shop and spent a few hours there reading a paperback. Suddenly my sister came bursting at the shop entrance, I can tell she hated me to the single cell I have in my body for leaving her. She grabbed me by the arm and we went home. She was fuming that I didn?t even dare asked what happened.
The next morning, we woke up suddenly surrounded by flowers and balloons, with sorry notes. I was starting to wonder what really happened yesterday that brought the recent events to unfold. Today?s plan is visiting the parks, so we went to the coffee shop as usual for breakfast only find out that this man is already there, my sister tried to turn around but I?m faster in forcing her to chair, I ordered coffee. Then the bartender came with baked pie with words ?I?m sorry, can we be friends,? my sister cracked a smile and I think my little experiment is now working.
I left a few days earlier because I have to secure class schedules. But I never really thought she?ll never coming home anymore, after a week I suddenly received a summoning call asking me to help them prepare. It was a real shock; she was asking me to locate a Louisiana wedding photography studio near our lodging area. I snapped out from reminiscing when event photographers suddenly began flashing their cameras madly, here she comes. Looking back though, I never really found out what was it that irritated my sister on their first day together, I may never find out in this lifetime. All I know is I see genuine happiness in my sister?s eyes now, and well this man, this man who owned the coffee shop, is really her knight in shining armor.
